The Company

Established in 2013 Spa Track is a science-based, high-tech company working with creative and inventive technologies. It has a strong R&D philosophy and is focused on delivering RFID solutions that solve global healthcare challenges.

The company’s first major project has been to develop a highly innovative, ‘fit-for-purpose’ surgical instrument tracking solution based upon UHF (ultra high frequency) RFID technology.

Spa Track brings together a talented team of RFID specialists, experienced Auto ID software developers and medical device innovators. The team has experience across many sectors having delivered a wide range of successful track and trace solutions for many industries around Europe, including hospitals, and brings unrivalled asset management expertise having had extensive exposure to variety of demanding application environments.

IP Strategy

Spa Track has invested heavily in patenting its ideas which deliver value-add solutions to global healthcare markets. The company will continue to expand its portfolio as they develop their product technology applications. The Spa Track Board has reflected on the global nature of the surgical instrument tracking market and taken a broad view of its potential segments and made a decision to invest in the worldwide protection of its Intellectual Property.

Spa Track software is protected by copyright and the company has retained know-how of the control algorithms.

Many of the company’s core technologies have applications beyond healthcare, therefore Spa Track products may be purchased for use by other industries.

Meet the Spa Track Board

Martin Johnson - Chief Executive Officer

Martin established a credible medical device background having founded the company Quanta which successfully developed a novel dialysis machine suitable for patients to use at home without the need for nurses. Quanta was the first UK company to enter this rapidly-growing, global market that now offers thousands of kidney patients the opportunity live independent lives without being tied to hospital wards. Johnson created the company from minimal resources and raised significant investment to establish a business which today has a potential exit value in excess of £200m. With over 30 years’ experience in R&D, engineering and business development Martin created the advanced technology company ‘IMI Vision’ in 2000 and developed a series of leading edge products to many blue chip global customers. He went on to hold a number of key senior appointments in the IMI plc group.
Mark Lynch – Commercial Director

Spa Track was the brainchild of Mark Lynch a successful entrepreneur with a proven track record in the auto ID industry. Mark has spent 25 years delivering quality bar coding and RFID solutions to a cross section of industries across Europe. As managing director of Fairfield, he has worked alongside hospital professionals since the early noughties striving to find the best way to track surgical instruments. Having worked on a number of projects involving laser marking, 2D codes and key dotidentification systems, Mark has developed a deep understanding of the complex needs of healthcare providers. His company Fairfield and has successfully introduced track and trace solutions for expressed breast milk, blood bag tracking and patient wristbands.
Andy O Donnell - Systems Director

Andy established his company Red Ledge Ltd in 1996 with a partner to create software solutions in logistics management and production settings for the control of data. Having spent 30 years in the auto ID software industry, his expertise is in designing systems using cutting edge technologies for the capture, presentation and analysis of management information is second to none. As Managing Director Andy has driven the Red Ledge business forward enabling it to become one of the leading specialist RFID software houses in the UK. Before Red Ledge Andy was Technical Director of JJA Ltd for 7 years, an Auto ID technology business based in the North West of England.
